YouTubers

I'm too tired to go into much detail right now, but I know a lot of people who are joyous about Ray William Johnson's YouTube channel being banned because of too many copyright violations and such. Apparently it's back up and the people who enjoy him are happy. Poor things.
I subscribe to about 50 YouTube channels. Most are vloggers and YouTube partners who have had such a deep impact on internet culture. If anyone wants to watch good, funny, insightful Youtube videos, just let me know and I'll hook you up.

Also, if anyone wants to suggest channels that I may not have heard of, that would be awesome.

Disclaimer: Several of the channels I subscribe to are either UK or Australian channels.
Also, many are PG-13... so, it's not for babies.
Also, apparently most of them are male. HEHE

Tingly

Last time I slept... um... Okay, Thursday I went to sleep at 4pm and woke up at 1am and then went to sleep at about 7am and woke up at 11am... And I don't think I've slept since then. I've written most of a paper and took an exam at 8:30am this morning (Saturday). The exam went amazingly well and I wrote about 8 pages (well written too!) on three questions.

So yea... my body is very tingly..

Wehey!

You can tell I don't have my meds

23hrs ago: ahhh... there is a lady bug in my room :(
17hrs ago: BLOOP
11hrs ago: Dance with me before your date kills me/ This is my last request/ You're worth it, just say yes.
10hrs ago: Turn to page 394

9hrs ago: I'm so glad our library has extended hours tonight. Open until 7pm instead of 5pm! Wow!
8hrs ago: I wonder, without the threat of death, is this even science?
6hrs ago: I have Forever Yours (by Alex Day) stuck in my head :) And if you haven't seen this AWESOME music video yet, you are missing out!!
5hrs ago: ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh #examweek
4hrs ago: The only technology that consistently works in my room is my Christmas lights. Oh...wait...a bulb is out...
33mins ago: ugh...Hulu hasn't been working all day... I need to watch my shows while I study!! #examweek

Yea... Funny thing, during the break between "4hrs ago" and "33mins ago," I did end up taking my medication (in case you couldn't tell, I have ADHD). But it only made me sleepy. In conclusion, I have an 8:30am final exam on a Saturday morning.
Best wishes to myself.

Hero of Canton, The Man They Call Jayne

Oh, He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne.
Our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin'.
He saw the mudders' lament.
And he saw the Magistrate takin'
every dollar and leavin' five cents.
So he said: "You can't do that to my people."
said "You can't crush them under your heel."
So Jayne strapped on his hat
and in 5 seconds flat
stole everythin' Boss Higgins had to steal.
Oh, He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne.
Now here is what separates heroes
from common folk like you and I.
The man they call Jayne
he turned 'round his plane
and let that money hit sky.
He dropped it onto our houses
he dropped it into our yards.
The man they called Jayne
he stole away our pain
and headed out for the stars!
(Here we go!)
He robbed from the rich
and he gave to the poor.
Stood up to the man
and he gave him what for.
Our love for him now
ain't hard to explain.
The hero of Canton
the man they call Jayne...

Movement in my Shirt

So about 10 minutes ago, I reached into my closest and selected a purple turtleneck to wear. As I was going to take the hanger out of the shirt, I saw movement...inside of the shirt.
Now movement is not something one would like to see inside of a shirt that he or she is about to wear. I dropped the shirt because I have seen movies and I was not about to open the shirt only to be attacked by some vicious clothes dwelling alien. I have seen way too much Doctor Who to know that could be possible. Now as I said, I dropped the shirt and then a small brown nickel sized furry of death and horror started to scurry from the inside of my shirt. Without taking my eyes off of this vicious monster, I reached up into my other closest and got my paper towel roll, tore off about 4 sheets (more sheets = less contact with monster that wants to take over the world), and proceeded to squish and squash and smear the tiny yet terrifying monster with eight legs into the collar of my purple turtleneck shirt.
Then I hyperventilated, called my boyfriend, walked in circles while trying to call him again, finally he answered then I left my room and walked in circles in the hall and then went into the stairwell and walked in circles in the landing and went to the lobby and circled there and went back upstairs and into my room.
Luckily for all of humanity, the spider was still dead, my shirt is still in the middle of my floor with spider guts inside of it and I am not sleeping in my room tonight.

On Napping and Pee

I just had the most amazing nap ever that lasted 30 minutes. Cool thing: I dreamed. Unfortunately, my dreams consisted of me trying to go pee and fail because people kept walking in on me. Fortunately, I did not pee my bed thanks to boyfriend calling me.
I really, really, (you don't know how really) want to go back to sleep but I can't because I have to go shower because my mom is driving an hour and a half and then picking me up and then driving 45 minutes so that we can go shopping for warm things for me to wear.

So no more naps today.

...Until tonight. But I think that is called a sleep.

The "New" Facebook

I like the "new" Facebook. It gives more real time updates and makes it easier to edit what you want to see on your news feed. The only problem I have is that the scroll bar on the little live timeline thing is too small and I accidentally click the post instead of scrolling.

Other than that, I don't really care. I don't think that just because a website changed, everyone should get all up in arms and threaten to leave. It's not that big of a deal. I do understand the psychology behind doing so though. People have written out their lives, shared their stories on this website and it's like a journal or an autobiography (Albeit, very self-absorbed and uninteresting autobiographies).
I started this blog as a way to get away from social media. I haven't really done that lately, but I think I'm going to again. (I'm so inconsistent.)

Feedback on this would be much appreciated.

Note to the Annoying Girl in Class

Okay. We get it. You've been to Germany. I understand. That was cool. I'm really jealous. But you DO NOT have to mention it every dang class. I don't bring up all of the countries I've traveled to (which is more than you missy). Whenever France, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, or Belgium is mentioned, I don't say something about my personal experience there. SHEESH!! HUSH!!!

People Always Sit to My Left

Over the weekend, I went home and got a feather in my hair in a sketchy booth at a Native American festival thing (don't ask, I have no idea). Well, it looks really cute, but it's on the right side of my head and no one has noticed it unless I point it out. This confused me for a while until I realized (as I set on the right side of the room during class) that everyone always sits to my left and I always sit to the right.

That is all.

PS if you want to see my feather, sit to my right.

Artifacts: My Speech for Speech Class.

My name is Emerald Williams and I am from Greenwood, South Carolina. Greenwood is a fairly small city in what we call The Lakelands, but for our size, we have an excellent local history museum. Our main floor exhibits a replica of our early 1900s main street, and we have over 45,000 items in our collection. My job this summer was to go through some of these items we have in our basement and to determine whether or not we have a record of that item, and, if not, to make a record. Most of my work consisted of labeling items as FIS, or Found In Storage. This just means that until we can determine who gave the item to the museum or when it was given, the item is assigned a temporary number. I lost count as to how many items I “bagged and tagged,” but it was more than a few. I only worked for 7 hours a day, for 3 days a week, for 2 months, but in that short amount of time, I learned years of history.
The most fascinating part of my job was re-discovering items that no one had seen in years. Some items were a little mundane, such as a rock or a taxidermied owl. But other items like an old metal hairclip, a cookbook from the 1950s, and medicine bottles intrigue me because these were once someone’s personal belongings. A woman pinned her hair back with this clip while she baked for her family or during her job in a factory making weapons during World War II. Letters and photographs are always interesting glimpses into another person’s life, but actually holding an item through glove protected hands that someone used, really brings weight and depth to their life. Old keys whisper secrets and cracked and rusted cookware fills the senses with home-cooked Southern food. Huge railroad spikes pound away loads of stories in my head.
These artifacts not only represent another era in history, but an era in an individual’s life. Imagine 50 years from now your cell phone is in a museum basement. All of those conversations you had with your mom, those texts you sent to your boyfriend, the photos you shared with your friends, don’t mean anything to the summer intern working in a basement. This summer, my job was to find items, label them, and give them a little history if none could be found. My job was to uncover stories.

Status Quo

Tonight's post is just lyrics written by Darren Criss for the Starkid production "Starship." Starkid is amazing. You should all check out their productions. (http://teamstarkid.com/) (Note: At the end, the song refers to being a starship ranger. To find out more, watch "Starship.")

This song is beautiful. It really just speaks for it's self. (A link to Darren singing is at the bottom.)

**here is a link to how it's performed in the play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkQg18qbMQk&feature=autoplay&list=PLF5BDC95E3C0BB504&lf=plpp&playnext=5

It starts with not questioning the answers
And giving up before you've begun
It locks all the doors
Increases the pressure
And in a flash
Your time is up before it's done
And you won't know how it can feel
To feel at all

So I say no to status quo
Who wants to be like the rest
And deny the best that I'm meant for
I will show the status quo
Who wants to be normal
I'll never conform
I will be content to resent the status quo

I'll kick down the walls around me
They don't know how strong I am
I'm not defined by boundaries
They will never understand
I'm so much more

Than status quo
Who cares about being another pipe dreamer
Stuck on the bottom floor
And I know
It's time to go
So maybe I've gotten everything that I wanted
But I think that I might have made it so
When I said no, no, no
To status quo

Cause I am a starship ranger
I'm gonna do everything I can
To always be a starship ranger
Cause it's everything
It's everything I am

A Note

I am wearing a Perry the Platypus t-shirt and Lucky Charms PJ pants. Today I put signs above all 4 toilets on my hall saying "This way to the Ministry of Magic." My ringtone is "Hedwig's Theme" and my desktop background is of Serenity, the firefly ship from the 2002 show "Firefly." I am obsessed with Starkid and I sing their songs all of the time. I watch Avatar: The Last Airbender when I am getting ready for the day. I make bad jokes and puns. I laugh at everything because I usually find something funny about the situation. Sometimes I am anti-social, but I really like to hang out with friends. I love, love, love movies. I really enjoy reading; I also read really fast. I have a Coco Chanel perfume and I have been planning my wedding since I was little. I am a nerd, but I am also a girl. I love traveling and exploring new places. I have desires to travel sometimes that I just cry because I can't go right now. Europe is magical to me. I am not naive, so hush. I don't like the beach because I always always get sunburned and the ocean and I just don't get along. I love the mountains though. I wish I was more "outdoors-y." My sister can make me laugh like no other; she is the greatest. My  boyfriend is amazing and the smartest, hardest working man I've ever met. He makes me want to be a better person. My friends are hilarious (well, I think so) and I can tell them things without obvious judgment from them. (haha). I wish I could do magic. I make this silly little blog because sometimes, when I am cold and alone in my room, I just need to get some perspective.

Pros and Cons: Roommates

I live in the (primarily) Freshman dorm on campus (I'm a Junior. It is cheap. Shush.) I chose not to have a roommate this year and here are the pros and cons I have experienced so far.
Pros:
I haven't unpacked yet and it's okay.
I can be naked whenever I want.
My music, movies, etc can be as loud as I want them to be.
I can leave lights on
I don't have to worry about being quiet if someone else is napping.

Cons:
I haven't unpacked yet
Lonely

So far so good!!

My Thumb

So, last night a "friend" threw his dang iPhone in the general direction of my hand. Well, it hit the base of my thumb...hard. Needless to say, there was a lot of yelling and questioning of friendships and threats to call the police for a domestic violence report.* It was already starting to swell, so I put some ice on it and now, the next morning, it is just bruised. Now, this has given me time to really appreciate what separates us from the dogs, birds, and bees: opposable thumbs. This little appendage takes a beating throughout our everyday activities. I was digging around in my purse to find my phone and kept hitting my bruised thumb against everything. Texting is ALL thumbs. Typing (this whole post is painful) uses your thumb for more than just the space bar apparently (maybe I type weird?) Pulling back my hair has also become a pain. I really don't mean to sound like I'm whining, but I am just amazed at how much we use our thumbs. I cannot even imagine not having a hand, or an arm. My bruised thumb will heal in a week or so, but some people will never, have never, used thumbs, or fingers. Wow.

*Joking. Duh.

Things that keep me up at night

After my rant about work, I'm sure no one wants to read this anymore. But I'm having trouble deciding somethings.

I can't decide what house in Hogwarts I would be in.
and
I can't decide if I would be an Earthbender or an Airbender.

These are the questions that keep me up at night.

Let me tell you about my day.

So, I go to work at the museum at10am. Today, I arrived at 10:01. Stepped out of my car, and realized that I left my wallet at home. So, I head back to my house and catch every red light on the way. I grab my wallet and then head back to the museum; once again, i catch every red light. SIGH. So that was that. Then, I had to help set up the mazes and that took forever and it was really difficult. I'm not a handy girl, lol. Then I had a lovely lunch with my friend who is getting married. So that was a highlight. Then I had to just wait upstairs for another employee to get back from lunch (an hour and a half lunch). Finally, I was able to back downstairs to do my job: accessions. But then I remembered that the work from the pottery camp last week was on the floor where the basement flooded. (It's nice to know that the basement of a museum floods when there are very valuable things down there.) Finally, I was left with 2 hours to work on accessions.  UGH. Now, all I want to do is sleeeeeep

Crayons are amazing.

I'm not sure what it means when you can only color the foreground because your crayons aren't sharp enough to color the detailed background.

Today Hannah and I would pick out 4 random crayons and assign the other sister to color a page using only those 4 colors. This provided hours of entertainment. We are 20 and 15.

I watched most of a wonderful French film called "The Last Metro." You should check it out. It's set during WWII; my favorite historical time. Not because of the violence, but because it is so rich with story. Yes, I am thinking about it very romantically.

Also, I am currently watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and it is awesome to say the least.

C'est tout.

I'm a bad person.

I know I keep saying I'll have longer posts with actual interesting subjects, but when I usually think of intriguing things to say I'm either driving, or otherwise occupied so that I cannot write down my thoughts. And by the time that I have access to my phone or a pen and paper, I forget (curse you attention deficit disorder!). Like just now as I was typing this, I had a really clever joke that I was going to include but I had to figure out how to spell deficit and I forgot. Gr. But since the main purpose of my blog was to just have random thoughts and take up more space in the interwebs, I feel that it is ok. I may not have as many readers, but that is ok.
Some of you may have noticed that the past few days I have posted to Twitter or Facebook. Shame on me. No, well yes...But I was also curious to see how much attention I gathered from different types of posts. (No, I'm not just justifying...only a little bit.) Funny, travel updates, quotes, pictures. I received the most traffic from posting a quote from the best-movie-made-from-the-best-series-ever "Serenity" from the series "Firefly." (The quote can be viewed here) http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150191566935896&id=599010895
The picture I posted received the most traffic http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150191101575896&set=a.495243115895.270870.599010895&type=1&theater (The one I posted on the 25th received a lot of traffic too, but since that one was sort of obligatory since it was mine and Sam's anniversary, I decided it doesn't count. lol)

So yes, that is about all. Are you people happy? I hope so because I sure am. Life's pretty swell right now. And here are today's updates:

Shows With Dead Bodies

You gotta love crime tv. The beginning is usually always the same with a few variations. Unsuspecting persons come across remains and freak out. OR the soon-to-be victim shows us what happened moments before his or her death.
As annoyingly predictive as this is, how else are the writers supposed to introduce the episode?
[Leave helpful comments below!] [Yay! Interactive blog!]
I mean, I'm sure it's hard enough coming up with creative ways to kill people and only have a couple of red herrings (and by couple i mean several) per season. But I mean, come on guys.
I only mention this because I am starting to watch Body of Proof on Hulu. (I've gone through my queue already.) So that's about it.
OH! Also, I really love when they say the title of the episode, in the episode. (Also, it's great when movies do that too. There's a Family Guy about it too. You should see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEi4I6UWuDQ
Also, I found another clip of movies saying the title. It uses a lot of movies geared toward a younger audience, so I am assuming it will be funny to most of you guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIUhA--KQP4&NR=1

NOW, I am done. I think.
PS, Sorry about the random fonts. I'm trying to find one I really like.
PPS, Comments are always appreciated.

I'll go be colorful somewhere else

Sorry for the bad grammar. I was typing this throughout yesterday and today. As you can see, not much happened. I went to a book fair carnival today at my sister's high school (well, it's a K-12 school) and I hung out with the coolest ninth and eighth graders in the world. (Shout out to Hannah and Lyndsey!) Other than that, not much happening. Tomorrow (well, today) I'm helping out with a church yard sale so that should be full of would be Tweets and status updates. Whooo!

Clarifying

So, I know I had said that I hope less frequent updates will result in more "popularity," but that is primarily for humor. Really, I hope to become less dependent upon social media. Just thought I would clear that up.

Why?

A question everyone wants the answer to when a blog is first published. Why? Because it is expected that the blogger will tell his or her readers (or mom) why his or her soul is being laid out raw, bare, for all to see on the internet. In my case, I am blogging because I realized today that I use instant social media far too frequently.
I updated my Facebook status and Tweeted 9 times. (Wow, only 9? It sure felt like a lot more.) While for some, that may just have gotten you through your morning routine, to me, that seems a bit much. Maybe. I started to become paranoid that people were getting annoyed with my frequent updates when my notifications gradually decreased in quantity.
"Are they not funny enough?" "Are they too 'pop culture'?" "Too many inside jokes?"
These questions haunted me all day. Less updates may increase notifications thus increasing my social status (which, after all, is why we use social media). But how can I continue to document my thoughts, actions, and observations without a massive deluge? *lightbulb* Blogging! But isn't blogging kind of early 2K? Maybe. But we shall see. I had a blog once... lasted 3 weeks... I think. (Hm... what ever happened to that?) Now, seeing as this is the start of the summer, I may just have created this blog out of boredom (probably) but hopefully this shall be the cure for my instant social media disease. (Labels are like hashtags? #amiright? #reallyhopeimright).
So. Here's the deal. Since most (90%) of my status updates and Tweets are provided via my HTC Hero and TweetCaster, I have (hopefully) found an app that will allow me to blog on the go! Wha-ho! If not, I'm not sure what I will do. Maybe just use a note app? So, while this blog may have long posts such as this (I'm planning on publishing one of my answers for an exam I just finished), mostly it will be sort of bullet points of would-be tweets or statuses. Here goes...
